FREE Shipping on Ultraline Flat Rope Reels

If you've had a shiny, new Utraline Flat Rope Reel on your wish list, now is a great time to put one under your boat's Christmas tree! Between now and December 31 get free shipping on all U.S. orders for Ultraline Flat Rope Reels.

One of the questions we most often get is "what comes with the reel?" So we decided to make an "unboxing" video to show you what to expect when you receive your new reel:

Each reel comes with four accessories and a User's Guide.

The first item is the Multi-function Winch Handle, sometimes referred to in other countries as a winding arm. The primary purpose, of course, is to reel in your line. However, it has some really cool features. Engineered of AISI 316 stainless steel, the handle includes a short, rounded Delrin® knob with brazen bearings , deck filler keys, a slotted deck key, a shackle key, and - most importantly - a bottle opener!

The next item is the Quick Release Mount. This is an improvement over the “old” fixed mount. If you ever dropped one of the four mounting bolts overboard, well you know what we're talking about. This is designed for railings and stanchions up to 1.5-inches in diameter. It’s super easy to use, it’s very sturdy, and it’s not a load bearing attachment point. That's because the Dyneema® line is always cleated off after the reel, which takes all the load.

Next is the 3-point Surround Mount. This little kit gives you everything you need to mount the reel on stanchions or a rails  larger than 1.5-inches in diameter, or on flat surfaces.

The fourth accessory is an additional/extra 10-foot length of Dyneema® line with a unique hook. The purpose of this line is to alleviate any potentiaal chafing of your main line. For example, if you’re attempting to stern tie (shore tie) and your only option is to run your line around a rock or other object that has some sharp edges, you can use this additional 10-foot length and not worry about chafing your main line.

And, of course, you get the reel itself. Made of 316L stainless steel, the Ultraline Flat Rope Reel employs Dyneema® flat floating line for extra strength and performance. The design of the reel provides a slim profile system to stow line for instant accessibility, for use as an anchor line, stern tying, dinghy towing, jacklines, or whenever extra line is needed quickly. The durable Delrin® reel bearings and Teflon® fairleads ensure smooth, lasting operation. These flat ropes are designed to stretch as loads increase - absorbing hard sudden surges so your cleats don't have to. The Ultraline Flat Rope Reel comes in four sizes with flat rope lengths of 130', 200', 260' and 330'.

We've had our reel since 2015 and love both the simplicity of use and the beautiful design. These systems are extremely well engineered and manufactured, resulting in decades of high performance use.

This holiday season, free shipping makes the Ultraline Flat Rope Reel even more attractive.

ULTRA Anchors - Not just another pretty face!
ULTRA Anchors - Not just another pretty face!

by Darren OBrien January 17, 2024

We tested an ULTRA Anchor on a charter catamaran in Tahiti a few years ago, and were summarily impressed with the anchor's performance. In particular, it securely held one blustery night where quite a few of the other boats in our anchorage dragged overnight. Granted, the boat we were on was brand new and had many luxury conveniences (a working ice maker on the fridge!), but the anchor certainly proved to be much more than the proverbial pretty face.

How to Keep Water Out of Your Fuel Tank
How to Keep Water Out of Your Fuel Tank

by Darren OBrien January 02, 2024

There is a common misconception among boaters in North America that because the gas and diesel we buy is essentially the cleanest in the world, we needn't worry about the dreaded "water-in-the-fuel" problem encountered in other countries. And though the fuels we buy in the U.S. and Canada are typically fine, once we have it in our tanks we still need to guard against water contamination and the subsequent problems those can manifest in our engines down the road.
